Introducing the first of the Talanome Tala Series Videos!
The Mukhi Tala Classification System was created by Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna. It marries the traditional Suladi Talas System with the syncopated beats of Chapu Talas.
Trimukhi Tala is one of the talas in this system. Other talas include Panchamukhi and Navamukhi. Learn more about the Tala, its structure and how to play it in the video below.
The video includes a historical tidbit of how Dr. BMK created the raga Dorai raga extemporaneously, created a composition and set it to Trimukhi Tala. He used it as the main piece on the concert he performed the very next day!
This Tala is available in Talanome – Carnatic Metronome for iOS – simply navigate to the “Choose Your Own Talam” option in the Tala Picker and find it under the group BMK, including other Mukhi Talas! The video above mentions how to download it from the website and import it into your Talanome, but the Tala has since then been added to the app itself, so it’s there ready for you to use!
